Overhead and under-basin bathroom cabinets are essential for storing towels and cosmetics. From simple cabinetry to elegantly designed furniture, here are the top tips for choosing bathroom furniture. Find out what to look for when shopping!

Free-standing or wall-mounted furniture?

Standing furniture can usually hold much more weight than alternative furnishings. They can be easily moved when cleaning or simply restoring or rearranging things in the bathroom. They work great if you want to store a lot of items in them, such as towels, shampoos, conditioners, shower gels, lotions, and bath lotions. And you can keep air fresheners and toilet blocks in them, too.

If you’re looking for a smaller chest of drawers or closet, but you don’t want to mount it on the wall, these cabinets will work great, too. Such furniture is perfect when you are renting an apartment and you cannot make permanent modifications to it

Wall-mounted furniture is ideal for smaller or less spacious bathrooms. They don’t take up the floor, so they provide more usable space in the bathroom, yet still serve their purpose. This category includes cabinets, shelves, and even some fixtures such as the sink and toilet.

There are many different types and styles of furniture available in the market today. Therefore, finding the ones that best fit your bathroom can be a bit tricky. Take advantage of our tips!

Popular types of bathroom furniture

Under-basin cabinets have become an essential part of modern bathrooms. They offer plenty of storage space, plus they decorate any interior. We distinguish here both models standing and mounted on the wall.

A low, free-standing cabinet usually has one or two drawers. You can place it in a corner or under a taller piece of furniture.

Illuminated mirror cabinets serve a dual function. Not only do they provide a mirror, but also space to hold useful trinkets.

The proposed furniture is available in different sizes to fit different bathrooms. They do not take up too much space on the walls and floor.

What material to choose a bathroom cabinet from?

There are two main materials in the manufacture of bathroom furniture, solid wood and composite materials. Each is used in a different style. Composite materials allow for more modern and sophisticated forms. They often come at a lower price.

Melamine-faced particleboard (MFC), for example, consists of melamine resin bonded to particleboard. Melamine board is a very resilient material. It can be easily cleaned. On the other hand, it is susceptible to water damage. It must have a proper finish to avoid this.

Most of these types of furniture provide extremely good value for money. You can put them in your second or rented bathroom.

Medium density fiberboard (MDF) consists of offcuts and waste from other wood manufacturing processes mixed with binders and adhesives and then compressed. Much denser and harder than MFC, the material is one of the most popular choices in the bathroom industry. MDF is available in a dazzling array of colors. It shows high resistance to temperature and humidity changes. You don’t have to worry about it starting to warp over time. Most of the high quality bathroom furniture has just been made from MDF.

Wood is also used in the manufacturing of bathroom furniture. The workmanship and finish is such that the material is durable in a humid environment. The countertops can be made of more luxurious materials such as marble, glass or granite. Mirror cabinets are usually made of stainless steel.

What color of bathroom furniture?

The color of your bathroom furniture is primarily determined by your overall décor. You need to figure out which colors work well together. With help here comes color theory.

Grey furniture is becoming increasingly popular. They fit both traditional and modern bathrooms. They go well with bright colors such as pink, blue and anthracite

If you like traditional solutions, opt for white furniture. They can have a matte or glossy finish. If you are decorating your bathroom in a rustic or vintage style, opt for pastel-colored furniture. Or maybe you like to stand out? Then black furniture will certainly suit your taste.
